stress reduction

It’s the Friday before Thanksgiving and everyone is wishing each other a happy Thanksgiving as they leave the office, looking forward to as far as I can make out a weekend full of planning, shopping, standing in long lines to do a litany of endless tasks that have to be completed before the actual day of thanks. It just strikes me as odd that we would spend a week of complaining about all of the things that we have to get accomplished so that we can spend a few hours of gratitude on Thursday.

So I decided to be grateful starting today, I’m grateful that I have family and friends to be able to give to, and that I have such good health that I can be superwoman for a few day to accomplish what I want. I’m grateful for all of the little simple pleasures that this holiday brings like making cranberry sauce with my daughter,  and I’m truly grateful for all of the abundance that I have in this life and I must admit I now feel more relaxed and happy. Now if I can only remember this beforeI get stressed out next year! Namaste and Happy Holiday.

I was teaching a yoga class last Saturday and one of my students came up to me after class and asked, “What can I do to help  reduce the amount of worry and resulting stress in my life”. It was causing a lack of sleep, lack of focus and lack of happiness in her life. Although she’s not in the real estate business, I am hearing a lot about the worry and related stress agents have about our market and what the future holds for them.  My advice to her was to be present in the “Now”. I know this sounds simplistic but just think back to all of the things that you have worried about in the past—how many of them actually came to fruition? And if it did happen, did sleepless nights help any? So being present is about focusing on today, letting go of yesterday, accepting that only now, this moment is the true reality.

Life is about change, markets will change, people will change, and suffering only comes about by not accepting the change. Accept the change and know that only YOU are responsible for your success, the market or circumstances do not determine your success or peace of mind…and don’t forget to just breathe.
